Dear Go-Players!

Finally I managed to put the first edition of the IEGM on the web. For those who have been waiting for this event for a long time I want to apologize. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who send me e-mails with articles and comments.

In the past I've built my own homepage and I thought the IEGM wouldn't be such a difficult task for me. Fortunately I was wrong and it seemed that I still have to learn many new things creating good looking webpages. The possibilities of web-design are increasing as rapidly as the web itself. Being up to date 3 years ago isn't sufficient anymore to create pages which can be considered good in the present time. At the moment there is also the problem that the explorer and navigator are interpreting css-style-sheets in different ways. And I found out that it was impossible to avoid that some articles are looking better in one browser than in the other. Since the style-sheets are still developing I hope that there will be some standard coming up concerning the interpretation.

The first-edition is very "thin" because there was a lack of contributions. But I'm quite happy about this fact, since I still had to get accustomed to the task of creating the magazine. I consider the first edition as an advertisement for the page to attract new contributors. You probably will recognize that the page is still under construction and there might be some things that aren't working like they should. Also the content of the page is for the moment very small (8 articles in 4 languages!). But I hope this will change visibly with the 2nd edition.

As I'm in the first year of my studies and the development of the magazine was in the same period, as were my exams and important Go-tournaments, I had quite some difficulties to find enough time. Since now I gained some experience implementing articles into the magazine, I can manage a much bigger 2nd edition. I will appreciate if you would advertise for the magazine by linking to it on your own page and/or inform other go-players about it!

The appearance, structure and the features of the page are still in it's developing-phase and therefore I look forward on your advice how I could improve the site. Please don't feel offended if I can't answer your e-mail too quickly, but I'm also only a Go-player and I will take a holiday for the next 2 weeks.

The deadline for new articles for the 2nd edition is 20-1-2000 and it will be published on the net 2-2-2000. You can submit articles using the form on the webpage. If you send it after the deadline I will probably publish it in the 3rd edition.
