The Romanian rating system

        The members of Romanian Go Federation are classified within the Kyu - DAN system, just like in the International Go Federation system.
        The rating is made between 20 Kyu (the lowest rank) and 7 DAN (the highest rank). Every player has an individual value coeficient (CIV), which is a positive number for DAN players and negative for Kyu players. The diference between two succesive ranks is 100 points, just like in the next table:

RANK

...

3 Kyu

2 Kyu

1 Kyu

1 DAN

2 DAN

3 DAN

...

CIV

...

-399 ~ -300

-299 ~ -200

-199 ~ -100

+100 ~ +199

+200 ~ +299

+300 ~ +399

...

        Notice that between -100 and +100 there is just one point diference.

How the CIV is calculated

        All the tournament games played by a member of RGF are taken into account when calculating the CIV. After every game a player gain or loose a certain number of points which are calculated with one of the next formulas:

A. if WR >= LR:

W = + ( 10 - 3 x D )

W = + 1

L = - ( 10 - 4 x D )

L = - 1

for D <= 3;

for D > 3;

for D <= 2;

for D > 2;

B. if WR < LR:

W = + 6 + ( D + 1 ) x I;

L = - [ 10 + ( D x I )/4 ];

where:

        This formulas apply to all the players between 20 Kyu and 1st DAN and change with their CIV.
        For DAN players the formulas apply in the same way, but the ranks are achieved only after the Rating Comitee analize the players games and results. The DAN ranks once achieved, are never taken back.
        The 5 and 6 DAN ranks can be achieved only after good international results and the 7 DAN rank only after winning the World Amateur Championship.
